Our Environmental Policy
Introduction
The Council and Wandsworth Local Strategic Partnership are committed to working together to make Wandsworth:
"a community of global citizens living within environmental limits in an attractive high quality local environment"
We have long-term ambitions for a more sustainable future. These are:
-
For a cleaner, greener, healthier borough
-
To reduce carbon dioxide emissions
-
To adapt to the unavoidable effects of climate change
-
To tackle the consumption of resources and pollution; and
Our 2007 environmental policy sets out in more detail the areas we are working on to achieve this. For example:
-
We signed the Nottingham Declaration on climate change in 2009, setting out our intentions to tackle both the causes and effects of climate change
-
We are participating in the Carbon Trust's Carbon Management Programme 2009/10 - to develop a carbon management plan to reduce our carbon footprint
-
We are active in working with landowners and developers to protect and enhance wildlife
-
We are keen to encourage more sustainable transport, walking and cycling to school and more accessible and convenient public transport.
See our progress against targets in the 2007 Environmental Policy (as at September 2009).
Our corporate commitment to tackling climate change was first proposed in a report to the Environment and Leisure Overview and Scrutiny Committee by the Chief Executive and Director of Administration on Tuesday 2 Setember 2008.
