Wandsworth Council's annual carbon footprint

The Council is required to participate in the Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme (the CRC). This involves the reporting of carbon emissions from Council activities and the purchase of credits to cover these emissions.

The carbon footprint of Council activities is published on this page in a slightly different format to that used for the CRC (including emissions from some transport). This is so that the information can be used by Government and residents to compare Wandsworth with other Local Authorities, public bodies and businesses who will use similar methodologies.

Methodology

This report follows the DEFRA Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reporting Guidance. The 2015 emission factors have been used.

The vast majority of data used to compile this report is from 2015/16.  In a few cases the data used for some buildings is 2014/15. Efforts are being made to update this where possible. It is not thought to make a material difference to the figures reported.

The large drop in carbon emissions in 2015/16 is largely due to a number of sites (20) that had been included in the 2014/15 count leaving council control. This included 15 schools that have become academies. It is also affected by a number of sites being transferred to Enable Leisure & Culture - responsible for operating the council's parks and events -midway through the year, so only 6 months of usage is included 2015/16 calculation. It is therefore not advised to use this data for year-on-year comparison.
