The Open House Arts Event 2010

The event is organised by the Wandsworth arts team - in conjunction with an artists' steering committee - is a unique opportunity and amateur artists to showcase and sell work from their home studio. It also offers the public a glimpse of the artist's work environment, and well as the chance to engage with them directly.

Now in its eighth year, Wandsworth Artist's Open House embraces a variety of mediums such as: crafts, design, sculputure, painting, jewellery, photography, drawing, film and installation. Many visitors buy their first piece of original artwork at an Open House and return again year after year. The 2009 event attracted in the region of 8,000 visitors to over 200 venues across the borough, and this year has seen many more houses and studios opening up.

Several Putney based artists including: BP Travel award-winner Isobel Peachy, sculpture Gilbert Wyman and painter Alan Smart, will be participating in the 2010 event. Longstanding Artist Open House participant and local artist Alan Manham says: "Artist Open House is a fantastic local celebration. It allows artists to share their work with neighbours and for residents to find out what happens behind the doors on their streets".

Artist Open House is a great day out for the whole family. The map of open houses, which is available online or in libraries from September, allows visitors to build their own trail, stopping off for a coffee or bite to eat along the way. Putney offers a delightful trail, with its buzzing high street and riverside walk.

Council leader Edward Lister said:"These weekends give us a rare opportunity to tour the borough's studios and creative workplaces.
It's absolutely fascinating to see these talented individuals at work and to learn more about the differnt skills and techniques involved in their trades."

Members of the public have access to the homes of artists to view their works, this event is planned for October 2010. Keep an eye on this website or the diary section of the Wandsworth Council website.
