Sports funding and policy

In 2006 Sport England carried out England's largest sports and physical activity survey: the active people survey.

The results of the survey showed that:

• Wandsworth has the third highest participation rate in London (out of a total of 33 London boroughs) at 27 per cent. The national average is 21 per cent 
• 18 per cent of Wandsworth residents took part in competitive sport in the preceding 12 months, the highest rate in London and above the national average of 15 per cent 
• 25 per cent of people in Wandsworth received tuition from an instructor or coach in the last 12 months, the fourth highest figure in London. The national average is 18 per cent 
• 69 per cent of Wandsworth residents stated that they were satisfied with local sports provision. The average in London was 66 per cent satisfied
• 54 per cent of Wandsworth's adult population took part in at least one sport or physical activity in the four weeks prior to being surveyed.  The national average is 45 per cent.
