Road transport is the third largest source of UK greenhouse gas emissions

Electric vehicles produce zero exhaust emissions and therefore do not contribute to the high levels of air pollution we have in London. Travelling by public transport would always be encouraged but it's not always practical or convenient. Electric vehicles offer a lower emission alternative.
With an electric vehicle you benefit from:

• No road tax or engine oil needed, 
• No exhaust fumes, 
• Low insurance.

How the council's scheme works

Electric vehicle charging points allow electric vehicle owners to charge their vehicle for a limited time in a dedicated space. The council is introducing electric vehicle charging points in the borough.  Two off-street electric vehicle charging points are already available and four on-street electric vehicle charging points are being installed within the borough this autumn. This page will be updated as soon as the on-street points are available. The electricity supplied is currently free to all registered users of the scheme, although normal parking charges and restrictions do apply.

The charging points can only be used with an electronic key fob to activate them. These fobs are distributed through membership of the scheme. Once registered with the scheme, you can use a number of charging points across London.

There is an annual fee for membership and terms and conditions apply including the use of a coiled charging lead to prevent a tripping hazard.

• 1 recharging space, for electric vehicles only, at Putney Leisure Centre car park, Dryburgh Road, Putney, SW15 1BL

We hope to continue adding more charging points but this will depend on sufficient take-up of the scheme and the use of the bays.
