Our Wandsworth 2018

How the vision will be delivered

Our Wandsworth 2018 logo

A group called the Wandsworth Local Strategic Partnership (WLSP) drew up Our Wandsworth 2018 and will monitor its implementation. This group, which is led by Wandsworth Council, contains 25 members drawn from the public, private, voluntary and community sector, including the health service, the police and residents' groups. All these different groups are already working together to bring about positive change.

At the same time Wandsworth Council will continue to put good quality, value-for-money services at the heart of everything it does.

The WLSP has been working since 2001 to improve the quality of life of people in the borough. The first community strategy for the borough was published in 2003 and has helped guide the way the council and its partners work together. You can download a copy of the original strategy from the Related Downloads area.

Making long-term plans

The WLSP already has in place some long-term plans for the borough. For example:

  • Supporting the building of new private and public housing and making the best use of what we have already.
  • Working for a transport system that is safe and efficient and has proper respect for the environment. In the long term this means integrating, improving and expanding the local public transport system.
  • Making sure our parks and open spaces are protected and improved. Residents have told us these are some of the best things about the borough.
  • Supporting our five town centres - Balham, Clapham Junction, Putney, Tooting and Wandsworth - as the focus for local shopping and leisure.
  • Keeping the community spirit that exists in the borough and encouraging active citizenship by promoting volunteering opportunities.
  • Giving young children the best start in life through a comprehensive approach to early years health, development and fun.

Achieving the long-term vision by setting shorter-term goals

Our Wandsworth 2018 describes the updated long-term vision for the borough. This vision will be achieved by setting shorter-term goals set out in a document called the Local Area Agreement. There is also a range of action plans addressing the needs of specific groups such as young people and older residents, or issues like tackling crime.

Our Wandsworth 2018 will be regularly monitored and updated to make sure it continues to meet the needs of local people.

Thinking about important issues in all the work we do

The council and its partners have also made a commitment to think about five important issues in all the work we do. These are:

  1. Promoting equality
  2. Sustainability
  3. The way we work with local people
  4. Older people's issues
  5. Working with the voluntary and community sector.
