Parks Police

About us

Who we are

Our parks police officers are council officers and have the authority to act in issues affecting the council and its buildings throughout the borough. They also have the status of police constables and with a few exceptions have the powers and privileges of the office of a constable.

Reserve parks police officers and events stewards assist the parks police in patrolling the parks and open spaces and provide support for major events that take place there.

Parks police support officers cover the 24 hour operations and control room and support the officers.

Parks police officers are trained to a high standard before becoming constables. They receive annual refresher training in changing legislation, policies and procedures.

Parks police instructors hold Home Office training certificates in officer safety techniques. This means they can train other officers the correct procedures for dealing with violent and abusive people.

The parks police training section gives certificated training courses on various subjects to outside organisations.

What we do

We patrol all parks, gardens, open spaces, recreation grounds, cemeteries, play areas, nature reserves and commons in the borough.

We operate all the time and patrol in all weather on foot, by motorcycle or car and van. We respond to calls for assistance from the public and assist the Metropolitan Police in pre-planned operations.

Many of the patrol areas are covered by closed circuit television systems which provide assistance in monitoring anti-social behaviour and criminal activity in public areas.
