Wedding poems and readings

Ideas for your ceremony

One of the most significant ways of enhancing and personalising your ceremony is to include a poem or reading by one of your family or guests. This is a unique way of making your ceremony truly memorable and inclusive.

Why not ask your mother (often the forgotten hero of the perfect day) or your son, daughter, brother or sister or your lifelong friend to say some favourite words on your special day. Asking them to do a reading is one way of including them in the service by giving them a prominent role.

Set out below is a selection of the poems and readings that couples have used at Wandsworth weddings and civil partnerships over the years. Some of them may be suitable for your day. Alternatively you may have a particular favourite that you would like to use or you may wish to write your own special words that are important and meaningful to you.

In publishing this collection of poems we are simply giving you an indication of the poems couples have previously used to enhance their weddings or civil partnerhips at Wandsworth Register Office. There are many other appropriate poems and readings available. Talk to your friends and family for further suggestions.

We are not sure of all of the authors - if you know who wrote a particular poem let us know so that we can attribute it accurately.
