Story of Wandsworth
Time off

Southfields football club, 1905
As the suburbs grew, leisure activities played an important role in promoting a feeling of community amongst new residents. Organised sport was introduced and clubs for football, cricket and cycling flourished. Special facilities, such as swimming baths, were built.
Music Hall was another new form of entertainment. At first, halls attached to pubs were used and then purpose-built theatres, which were considered more respectable. There were several of these theatres in the Wandsworth area, which attracted large audiences from all classes. Those with less money to spare could watch a street entertainer or enjoy a stroll on the park, possibly listening to a brass band.
