Weighbridge operator's licence

About weighbridge operator licences

Summary of requirements

To operate a public weighbridge, you require a certificate of competence issued by the Chief Inspector for Weights and Measures for your local authority.

Eligibility criteria

You must have sufficient knowledge for the proper performance of your duties.

Application evaluation process

In order to obtain a certificate a Trading Standards Officer will need to visit you and observe you using your firm's weighbridge. Certification requires a fairly simple test, covering the use of the equipment, issuing tickets, keeping records and answering a few questions to demonstrate your understanding of the legal obligations imposed on an operator of a public weighbridge.
