Noise
Be a noise buster!
- Consider the noise you make and the effect it has on others
- Consider the noises that disturb you
- Use practical solutions to everyday noise problems
Nice neighbours keep noise levels down at home:
- keeping the volume of amplified music down and placing speakers away from partition walls
- knowing that their barking dogs can be lonely, bored or unhappy and working out ways to keep them exercised, and with enough company
- choosing domestic appliances with quiet noise ratings and making sure noisy domestic appliances are away from party walls, on a mat or carpet to reduce vibration, and using them at sensible hours to reduce disturbance
- making sure their burglar alarms are regularly serviced and keyholder details are registered with the Council
- warning neighbours before carrying out noisy DIY jobs and doing them at times when they are less likely to disturb anyone
- using noisy garden power tools at times when they are less likely to disturb anyone
- not shouting, avoiding slamming doors and walking quietly up and down stairs
Decent drivers drive their vehicles quietly:
- keeping their car stereos turned down
- making sure their car alarm works properly
Positive pub and club owners manage their business effectively:
- making sure loud music stays inside
- encouraging customers to leave quietly
Considerate customers keep noise levels down when leaving pubs and clubs:
- arriving and leaving quietly so as not to disturb residents in the area, especially late at night.
