Noise
Introduction
Most residents will have been affected at some time by a 'nuisance' whether it is noise, smoke, dust or smells, which in some cases can have a serious impact on the quality of life.
Each year we receive more than 5,000 complaints about nuisances, of which over 4,000 are about noise.
We have powers to deal with a wide range of noise problems including:
- loud music
- domestic noise such as DIY work and barking dogs
- car and intruder alarms
- construction site noise
- noise from pubs and clubs
- noise from commercial premises
We do not have powers to deal with aircraft, railway and road traffic noise.
The Housing Department deals with noise problems that arise on their premises.
