Exemptions for vacant properties
If your property is/was requiring/undergoing major repair works to make it habitable or it is/was undergoing structural alterations you may be entitled to a Class A Major Repairs/Structural Alterations exemption. This exemption may be applied for a maximum of twelve months from the date the property required structural alteration.
Claiming an exemption
In order for the council to consider granting this exemption, you should complete the application form and declaration and return along with the relevant proof.
If your property is unoccupied and unfurnished you may be entitled to Class C exemption. This exemption may be applied for a maximum of six months.

Please be aware that if the property had previously been awarded a similar exemption and not been occupied since, it will not be possible to award a further period of exemption, despite any change in ownership. We will notify you if this is the case.
