Sheltered housing
Extra care housing
Extra care housing is similar to sheltered housing but is suitable for older people who need more care and support. It provides flexible, individually tailored packages of care and support on site 24 hours a day.
How to qualify
To qualify for extra care housing in Wandsworth you must be aged 55 years or over and be eligible for help from the council's adult social services department. Decisions as to who should be allocated extra care housing are made by a Joint Assessment Panel which is chaired by adult social services. For further information, please contact Adult Social Services.
Chestnut House, Wandsworth's first purpose-built extra care housing scheme, was built by Richmond Upon Thames Churches Housing Trust at Arabella Drive, SW15 and the first residents moved in during August 2008.
All of the 34 one bedroom and 7 two bedroom flats are wheelchair accessible with fully fitted kitchens (electric oven and hob, fridge / freezer, washing machine and microwave included) and walk-in showers. A guest room is available for visiting family and friends.
