Children's Specialist Services
Adopters, carers and guardians
Adopters become the legal parent of children with an Adoption Order from the court.
- The team reviews and monitors adoption support plans, and carries out adoption support assessments for any families living in the borough who are requesting support.
- We can provide assistance, including direct work with children and their families.
Kinship Carers care for children full-time and long-term. A kinship carer might be a relative, such as a grandparent, aunt or uncle, or be a family friend.
- The team runs support groups and produces a newsletter in partnership with carers.
- The team carries out reviews of kinship foster carers (those who care for 'looked after' children), and other kinship carers in the borough.
Learn about our services
Special Guardians care full time for a child and have a Special Guardianship Order from the court.
- The team reviews and monitors special guardianship support plans, and carries out special guardianship support assessments for any families living in the borough who are requesting support.
- The team will also carry out some full assessments.
Private Foster Carers care full time for a child
(who is not a close relative, for whom they do not have parental responsibility) in their own home for more than 27 days.
The child would be aged under 16, or under 18 if disabled. This is usually an arrangement that has been made between the parent of the child and the adult who is to become the private foster carer.
- The team carries out statutory visits to the child, and provides support to the carer.
For further advice or information please contact the team between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.
