Green Business Awards
Introduction
2009 Wandsworth Green and Heartbeat Awards
We encourage and support Wandsworth Businesses to grow and prosper. This includes organising award schemes where businesses have the opportunity to showcase their talents.
The Wandsworth Green Business Awards 2009 are open to all businesses in Wandsworth.
The awards recognise businesses that do their bit to reduce their carbon footprint and help the environment.
Examples include setting up a recycling scheme, reducing energy use - such as changing to low voltage lighting - and encouraging staff to cycle to work or use public transport rather than driving.
Judges will be looking for particularly outstanding examples of commitment and innovation that have a real impact and may help influence other businesses in the future.
Winners will receive prizes, free promotion and will be entitled to display the Go Green Plus logo. Winners, and those demonstrating significant achievements in reducing their footprint and helping the environment, will also be included in a Green and Sustainable Business directory that will be promoted throughout the borough.
The awards are being sponsored by Liberata, the European Regional Development Fund, the Go Green Plus project, Wandsworth Chamber of Commerce and publishers of the Wandsworth Guardian.
The closing date for the Green Business Awards has been extended to Monday 18 January 2010.

Last year's overall winner, Wandsworth's Green Business Champion 2008, was Lamberts Restaurant of Station Parade, Balham. Its achievements included regular recycling of paper, tin cans, foils, some plastics, glass and cardboard; conversion of cooking oil into bio-fuel and serving unlimited filtered tap water to customers. Its British menu means Lamberts is also able to source local and sustainable produce of an extremely high quality. This environmental philosopy is passed on to all staff and allows customers to make an informed choice about where they dine.
