Welfare Reform changes and your benefits

Following the Welfare Reform Act 2012, the Government introduced various changes to the benefits system.

The following pages give an overview of these changes and how they may affect you.

Benefit Cap - The limit on the total amount of benefit that most people aged 16 to 64 can get.

Social Sector Size Criteria – Applies to working age people who rent their property from us or a social landlord such as a housing association and have more bedrooms than they need.

Personal Independent Payment – Provides help with some of the extra costs caused by long-term ill-health or a disability for people aged 16 to 64.

Universal Credit – A single benefit for people aged 16 to 64 aimed at making work pay.
