Tooting Bec and Broadway Application

Wandsworth Council has received applications to establish a Neighbourhood Area and a Neighbourhood Forum. This comprises the first stage in the neighbourhood planning process.

The applications seek to:

  • establish a Neighbourhood Area, to be known as Tooting Bec and Broadway Neighbourhood Planning Area and;
  • set-up a Neighbourhood Forum, to be known as Tooting Bec and Broadway Neighbourhood Planning Forum
These applications include a written constitution, Forum membership, statement of justification and a map showing the proposed Neighbourhood Area boundary.

Details of the proposed application

The role of a neighbourhood forum is to represent the community and to lead the neighbourhood planning process and to develop a neighbourhood plan. These forums should be a mix of residents and businesses to reflect the character of the area.

The applications comprise the written constitution of the Forum and membership list, a map of the proposed Neighbourhood Area and a statement of justification explaining how the Forum meets the requirements of the legislation for recognition as a qualifying body and a justification for the designation of the Area.

The proposed Area broadly covers the areas of Tooting Bec and Tooting Broadway and includes the majority of the Tooting and Graveney Wards, and parts of the Wandsworth Common, Nightingale and Bedford Wards. The Area contains Tooting town centre, Tooting Bec local centre, St Georges hospital, Tooting Bec and Tooting Broadway underground stations, part of the area of land safeguarded for a Crossrail 2 station, a number of schools and Lambeth and Streatham cemeteries.

We are inviting comments on both the Neighbourhood Area and a Neighbourhood Forum applications from 9 January 2017 for a 6 week period to 20 February 2017.
