National Neighbourhood Watch Week

Recent years have seen the introduction and consistent success of the Not In My Neighbourhood Week, a national initiative to promote crime prevention and community safety awareness (read more below). In 2011, as part of 'The Big Society' campaign, Not In My Neighbourhood Week is being replaced by the National Neighbourhood Watch Week and will run from Saturday 18 to Saturday 25 June.

Despite the change, National Neighbourhood Watch Week will follow a similar format to its predecessor and we are confident will also follow its success. Further it will give all of us involved in Neighbourhood Watch a great platform to promote this nationally celebrated and locally invaluable scheme. It's never too early to start planning and we are keen to have every Neighbourhood Watch on board with us, with events in every ward. More information about the week will follow nearer the time.

Not In My Neighbourhood Week

A new initiative was introduced in 2007 by the Home Office entitled Not In My Neighbourhood Week (NIMNW). Police Services and other partners, including Wandsworth Council, took up the initiative across the country. More than 30 organisations and groups participated in the planning and delivery of events during the week. The aims of NIMNW were to:

  • Increase awareness among the local community of what the police and local agencies do to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour
  • Increase public confidence in the work the police and local agencies are doing to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour and make communities safer
  • Encourage the public to engage with police and local agencies and play their part in tackling crime and anti-social behaviour
  • Engage local and regional media and encourage them to support the work you are doing locally

For more information about either scheme please call us on (020) 8871 8919 or email communitysafety@wandsworth.gov.uk.
