Winstanley and York Road Leisure and community hub and Block 1
The concept for the new combined leisure, community, library and children’s centre is a fully integrated facility; a vibrant, welcoming and inclusive building, embedded within the local community.
It will enhance and connect with the adjacent park and wider site, delivering long-term economic and environmental sustainability.
The leisure and community centre will include:
- A large inviting entrance with reception, café, library access, pool viewing and community hall
- Three pools and a changing village to create an uplifting leisure space
- A new type of library with a variety of functions for all of the community
- Children’s centre and a creche
On entering the building from the ground floor there will be a huge feature staircase as well as, a café, library including a children’s library in addition to a community hall/exhibition space which can be hired out by the public.
The first floor will provide further library space and some multi-use private rooms including a designated youth area which will been carefully designed alongside sound engineers to ensure the noise doesn’t impact other library users. Additionally, there is private entrance from street level to the rear to a brand new re-provided GP health centre.
The vision is to have as much open and fluid space as possible and try to have glazed partitions where required, in order to allow a clear visual across most spaces and looking out onto a beautiful new village square.
Above the leisure centre there will be two residential towers comprising of 239 private sale units known as Block 1A and 1C and will be 31 and 20 storeys in height.
