Heathrow flight trials

From November 2 to February 29, 2012 the rules governing aircraft movements coming in and out of Heathrow will be relaxed.

This means the airport's operator BAA is permitted to bring more planes into land over central London during established 'respite periods' when Wandsworth residents would normally get an eight hour break from aircraft noise.

BAA says the purpose of the 'operational freedoms' trial is to explore ways of making the airport run more efficiently and to cut down on flight delays.

Wandsworth Council is urging local residents to report increases in flight noise during the trial. The data collected will be used to demonstrate the true impact on communities living under the flightpath.

The trial does no affect the rules governing night flights which will remain unchanged throughout the testing period.
