Q: What can be recycled in the orange sacks/banks?
Answer:
The following materials can be put in the orange sacks or recycling banks for recycling:
- Paper (for example: white paper, newspapers and magazine, junk mail, envelopes - including envelopes with windows, and telephone directories (including Yellow Pages)
- Glass bottles and jars
- Cardboard (cardboard boxes, greeting cards and cereal boxes)
- Plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays
- Food and drink cans
- Empty aerosol canisters; and
- Food and drink cartons (fruit juice, dairy and soup cartons).
There is more detail in the waste collection pages. All the materials are collected mixed together and are sorted at a materials recovery facility. Although the council is always looking for ways to improve recycling it is not currently possible to recycle any other materials through the orange sacks or banks.
It is very important not to put any other materials in the orange sacks or banks as this can damage equipment at the materials recovery facility and mean that other materials cannot be recycled.
