Extra care housing

Extra care housing

Extra care housing is similar to sheltered housing but is suitable for older people who need more support, including care or support at night. It provides self-contained flats for people aged 55 plus, with flexible, individually tailored packages of care on-site 24 hours a day. Find out more about what extra care housing can offer in Wandsworth.

To qualify for extra care housing in Wandsworth you must be aged 55 years or over and have been assessed by the council as qualifying for help with care and support and needing the level of support provided in extra care. Find out more about who qualifies for help with care and support.

You should contact us first for an assessment of your care and support needs to find out whether you are eligible. If you already receive help from the council for your care, you may wish to contact the extra care services to arrange an informal viewing to see if extra care can meet your needs. Wandsworth has extra care flats in two locations:

  • Chestnut House in Roehampton
  • Prince of Wales Drive in Battersea (Mary Court and Joan Bartlett House)

A third site is being developed in Tooting and should be open in 2015.
