About health and safety

Responsibility for health and safety in the borough is split between the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the Local Authority (LA). In general, we are responsible for lower risk activities such as offices, catering and shops, most Care Home activities and beauticians. The HSE is responsible for higher risk activities including large construction sites, manufacturers and council premises.

Asbestos management

The duty to manage asbestos in the workplace is contained in this legislation: Regulation 4 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006.

Read the Health and Safety Executive website to find out who should be the duty holder, how to comply and how to manage asbestos.
