Next Wandle Trust cleanup: Sunday 13th April 2014, Kimber Road, SW18 4NY

Come and join the local volunteers to help the Wandle Trust keep the River Wandle and adjacent public land clear of litter and rubbish.

Next Sunday, local volunteers will be returning to Kimber Road, getting into the river under the bridge and working their way upstream to remove litter and rubbish.  The Wandle Trust's gazebo will be pitched nearby in King George's Park.

What to expect

Please arrive in time for a Health and Safety briefing at 11am.  If you arrive later than that, don't worry, you'll be asked to read the briefing and sign in to confirm your understanding of the guidelines, and agreement to adhere to them.

The event is expected to continue until 3pm with a break at about 1pm for tea, coffee and cake provided by the Wandle Trust, but you may like to bring a picnic lunch too.

What to wear/ What to bring

The Trust will provide a number of pairs of safety chest waders for volunteers to use. They have also 'recycled' some old chest waders and have turned these into Wellingtons which volunteers are welcome to wear, but these tend to be slightly larger sizes.  Please bring a pair of socks if you want to borrow a pair.  Other than that, please wear walking/working type boots or your own Wellingtons as these provide good foot protection.

The Trust also provide gloves and other pieces of equipment including litter pickers.  Please wear old clothes you don't mind getting dirty and layers as the weather may be changeable!  It's always worth bringing a change of clothes too, particularly socks, just in case your waders spring a leak!

Getting there

There is parking in Kimber Road itself or in Twilley Street; there is a fence to which you can chain bicycles, and it's about a 5 minute walk from Garratt Lane where the 44 and 270 buses travel up and down.  It is, however, about a 15 minute walk from Earlsfield overground station.

Council Support

Keeping the Wandle clean is not covered by the Council's cleansing contracts or duties.  However, the Council supports the efforts of the Wandle Trust and local volunteers by providing a free clearance service for any litter and rubbish they remove as well as through small grants from the Wandsworth Eco Fund
