Have you ever wondered what happens to your recycling? Visit Western Riverside Waste Authority and see for yourself!

A guided tour to find out what happens to all of your waste and recycling is being arranged for 6.30pm - 8.30pm on Thursday 24th April.

Have you ever wondered what happens to your recycling?  After the Council's contractor collects it, it is delivered to one of the Western Riverside Waste Authority's (WRWA) two waste transfer stations in Smugglers Way, Wandsworth and Cringle Street, Battersea.  WRWA's contractor loads the residual waste onto river barges which deliver it to an energy-from-waste incinerator in Belvedere, Bexley.  Their contractor also operates a recycling sorting plant in Smugglers Way which separates the mixed recycling by Wandsworth's residents.  The sorted materials are then sold on to companies that make products with recycled content.

A guided tour of WRWA's facility in Smugglers Way to see all this in action is being arranged for 6.30pm-8.30pm on Thursday 24th April.  The tour is free to Wandsworth residents.  Places are limited and must be booked. Please email mailto:liz@wrwa.gov.uk or call (020) 8875 8889 to secure your place or for more information.

Please note that for safety reasons, strong shoes must be worn. Protective equipment (hard hat, goggles and ear protection) will be provided. The tour involves several staircases and unfortunately WRWA are not able to offer lift access on this visit.

Further information on what happens to your waste is also available here.
