Pension service

The Local Government Pension Scheme is set up by law and benefit levels are defined by legislation passed by Parliament. Benefits are based on pensionable pay and length of membership of the scheme. They are not dependent on the investment performance of the Pension Fund. Instead, the benefit levels are set out in the Pension Scheme Regulations, made under the 1972 Superannuation Act.
