Food safety - Illness and contamination
The aim of the Food Safety Act is to ensure that all food sold to the public is safe and properly described on its label. One of our responsibilities is to enforce food safety legislation.
In particular we:
- Inspect local food businesses to enforce hygiene standards
- Investigate complaints about hygiene or contaminated foods
- Check food labelling, descriptions and claims
- Sample foods to test the quality and safety
- Investigate infectious diseases
