Advocacy

When you are in your meetings, you may hear people talking about advocates or advocacy. An advocate is an independent person who can help you speak up so that your views are heard and your rights are met.

An advocate can:

  • Listen to you
  • Help you find the right words to say to the adults who are making decisions you might not agree with.
  • Ensure your views are heard helping you prepare for meetings or/ and attending meetings/reviews with you.
  • Write letters and make telephone calls with you, or for you.
  • Help you to plan any action you may need or wish to take. This can include helping you make a complaint.

If you feel unhappy and you don’t think that Wandsworth Children's Service is listening to you, you can get an advocate who can help.
Wandsworth Children’s Services have asked Voice, a national charity for children and young people in care, to provide advocates to all young people who are looked after and would like one. If you think you would like an advocate, you can contact Voice on Freephone 0808 800 5792, 9.30 am - 5.30 pm, Monday to Friday.
