Tennis Wimbledon Junior Tennis Initiative The Wimbledon Junior Tennis Initiative (WJTI) is now in its 5th year of existence, with more than 40 schools receiving taster days from the head coach of the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC). The initiative was developed to introduce the children in Wandsworth and Merton to tennis, with some children being selected from the taster days to train weekly at the AELTC. The initiative has now been offered to all the state primary schools in Wandsworth with in excess of 9,000 pupils from reception to year 6 participating in a taster day during school time. Many of the selected children are still receiving free coaching sessions at weekends with some now training in the elite sessions. It is hoped that by the end of this school year the majority of primary schools in Wandsworth should have received thier secondary taster.
