Horse and cartThe first Wandsworth Heritage Festival is bringing together a series of events across the borough to tell the story of the development of the area in which we live and work.

Many local groups and societies document and protect the heritage of the borough and the festival provides a chance for them to showcase their work and recruit new members.

John ClarkeJohn Clarke: A Putney CraftsmanJohn Clarke was a fine artist, photographer and craftsman who lived in Putney until his death in 2007.

His main love was for model ships and his models were completed to a highly 'natural' state with great attention to details.

He pursued this lifelong passion from his house in Putney where he produced ship models of the very highest distinction that won him national acclaim.

An exhibition about this local craftsman including some of his beautiful and intricate models of boats is currently on display at Putney Library, Disraeli Road, SW15 2DR

Battery recycling at libraries
Did you know...

  • Around 600 million UK household batteries (22,000 tonnes) - the equivalent weight of 110 Jumbo Jets - are sent to landfill unnecessarily every year.
  • The average household uses 21 batteries a year, all of which could be recycled.
  • 89% of batteries are for general use and can be found in every room in the house.
  • You can now recycle your used household batteries at  libraries.  Simply deposit them for collection in the special container at the reception desk.
  • These household batteries can be accepted for recycling: non-rechargeable types D, C, AA, AAA, 9V and button cell.
