Wandsworth Libraries actively encourage children to use the Internet, which can provide help with homework and hobbies, learning and fun.
We advise parents and carers that:
- We do not have control over the content of material available on the Internet. You may consider some material unsuitable for your child.
- Staff will be present in the libraries, but we cannot provide constant supervision of children's activities.
- As with other library materials, parents and carers are responsible for their child's use of the Internet.
Children found using the Internet or computer equipment inappropriately will have their session cancelled and may be prevented from using the Internet in the future.
Staff can provide information on the safe use of the Internet and advice on useful websites.
We suggest that, without your permission, children do not:
- Reveal their home address, telephone number, school's name or information that could identify where they live.
- Agree to meet in person anyone they have "met" on the Internet.
- Reveal credit card details or order anything online.
We suggest that children:
- Ignore nasty, rude or suggestive e-mails.
- Tell you or a member of library staff if they see language or a site that is upsetting or makes them feel uncomfortable.
- Don't visit sites that say they are for adults only.
- Use websites recommended by library staff.
- Tell us about great websites for children.
Wandsworth Libraries want to ensure that you and your children enjoy safe surfing on the Internet. We recommend that you look at the guidelines on these sites:
