Film services

As part of the Film Office’s One Stop Service, we will act as the interface between film makers, council departments and the local community to secure a location on your behalf. We will, if required, attend technical recces to establish parking arrangements, location dressing advice and give guidance on health and safety matters.

You are requested to give as much notice of filming as possible, however in some cases filming still can be agreed at 24 hours notice.


  Parking
Mini parked at meterTo suspend all forms of restricted or controlled parking for filming, please highlight your requirements on the film application form (including a diagram if possible). We advise you to follow up this initial contact with a phone call to the Technical Services Department. Please note that a minimum of 5 working days is required to enable dispensations and bay suspensions.

Bay suspension: £24 per 5m space (first day), £18.50 for the second and each subsequent day.

Special parking areas £26 per 5m space (first day), £18.50 for the second and third day.

Yellow line waivers: £35

  Register your property

  Employment

  Wandsworth Film Awards in partnership with Westminster Arts Bursary Awards 2008

The five films that have recently been awarded through the Wandsworth Film Award Scheme are:

  • Backroads - (written by Rupert Raby, directed by Athena Mandis)
    In a sleepy fenland village, a British every-man is forced to confront the horrors of sex trafficking when he meets a mysterious young woman.  Writer Rupert Raby has just been accepted on the Guiding Lights mentorship scheme.  He has been teamed up with Peter Straughan whose recent credits include 'How To Lose Friends And Alienate People'.
  •  King Jeff (produced by Julia Hilliard, co-King Jeffproduced by Tilly Heald & Jules Bower, directed by Philip Dale & written by Jules Bower)
    A short film charting the adventures of Jeff, the man who thinks he is king. He has a crown. He has a cloak. He rides a horse. His throne room is crammed full of noble courtiers. Every morning King Jeff rides out to survey his kingdom and greet his humble subjects.
  • Love Does Grow on TreesLove Does Grow on Trees (written and directed by Bevan Walsh, produced by Geraldine Patten) 2008 winner of Best Newcomer Rushes Soho Shorts.
    It's 1989, the more innocent days before the internet, and 13 year-old Danny is about to discover porn magazines, girls and the embarrassment that goes with both.
  • Trial of a Child DeniedSkew Gardens - Vicki Bennett
    The "garden" was a first attempt to sanitise and control nature. Once there was the wilderness, now there is the urban jungle.
  • Trial of a Child Denied - Michelle Coomber
    Documentary on the forced sterilisation of Roma women in the Czech Republic.

Film-maker Gillian Pachter has picked up the top prize at film awards the BoBs.  She won the Jury Award at the recent Best of Borough film Awards (BoBs) for her film, Five Pound Hollywood.  The film was made throught the Wandsworth & Westminster Film Fund.  The award was presented by Gurinder Chadha, director of Bend It Like Beckham and new blockbuster Angus, Thongs & Perfect Snogging.

We will also be hosting screening events and running master classes for local film-makers.  Again, if you would like to receive information about this, please let us know and we will keep you up to date.

In spring last year the Wandsworth Film Office and Westminster Arts formed a partnership to support short film-makers. The aim of the partnership is to:

  • provide funding for the production and completion of short films
  • provide joint training sessions
  • share knowledge and resources
  • reach out to a wider network of film-makers
  • screen films supported by Wandsworth and Westminster Arts

This year will be the fourteenth awards we have supported.  There have been many successes with films funded so far, including the Sky Short Film of the Year 2000 and the 2003 selection for the highly prestigious Semaine de la Critique at the Cannes Film Festival. Many previous award holders have gone on to establish their careers in the film industry.

  Charges 2008
The following are guidelines of the hourly rates charged (all prices are subject to VAT):

  • Photography £75 - £85
  • Documentary £85
  • TV £100 - £120
  • Commercial £130
  • Music video £130
  • Feature film £150

Student rates are negotiated after an initial enquiry.

Finders/Referral Fee £100.

  Contracts
After an initial enquiry, a film application form should be completed. This enables us to determine your needs. A licence outlining terms and conditions for filming on location in Wandsworth will be generated. This paperwork has to be signed and a copy of the production's public liability insurance (minimum £5M) should be produced before permission is granted.

  Filming on the street
Street scene in WandsworthFilming on the streets and the removal and relocation of street furniture is co-ordinated via the council's Technical Services Department (On-street Services section). The Highways section informs production crews of future road works and traffic orders that may disrupt filming. It also advises on safety aspects of highways i.e. weight allowance on paving, diversions and closure or partial closure of roads. You are responsible for contacting the Met Police to make them aware of your shoot.
