orange sack colectionRecycling services
You can get details here of the recycling services available if you live in the borough. Find out more about how to reduce your rubbish, re-use materials and recycle other items.

Why recycle? Recycling gives things a future! Making new products from rubbish means we don't have to bury or burn it. This saves energy and resources, which is good for the economy and the environment.

Recycling is getting easier in Wandsworth. The orange sack and recycling banks for blocks of flats make recycling from home more convenient than ever before.

Orange sack recycling service
If you have your rubbish collected from outside your property in a normal dustbin or black sack you can also have your recycling collected in an orange sack. Orange sacks are delivered every three months free of charge. orange sack ready for collection photo

What can and cannot be recycled in your orange sacks

Orange sacks are collected every week on your normal rubbish and recycling collection day. Please tie the sacks and leave them just inside your front garden, where they can be clearly seen by the collection crew. Collection starts at 6am so please make sure that the sacks are put out the night before collection, or early enough on collection day.

If you do not have a front garden then you must leave your sacks on the pavement. Please make sure that your recycling sacks are not left on the pavement until the evening before or morning of collection in your area.

  Find your collection day

Orange sacks cannot be collected from dustbins, alleyways, back gardens or cupboards - please leave them where they can be clearly seen.

A roll of thirty orange sacks will be delivered automatically every three months. This allows use of about three sacks a week.

If you need more sacks, they can be collected from waste services at the Town Hall or from your local library.

If you are unable to collect sacks then please call 020 8871 7497 or email recycling@wandsworth.gov.uk to request delivery.

If you do not want to use the orange sacks to recycle, or if you have too many sacks, please return them by:

  • Taking them to your nearest library, or
  • Leaving them out for collection at the front of your property on the rubbish and recycling collection day after each delivery.

What happens to the orange sacks after collection?

Orange sacks used for general rubbish will not be collected. Deliberate misuse of the sacks may result in a fine of up to £1000.

If your rubbish is collected in large, wheeled bins we cannot provide the orange sack recycling service. Instead, wherever possible, we will provide wheeled recycling banks at blocks for the private use of residents.

What can and cannot be recycled in the recycling banks

We would like every block in the borough to have recycling bank facilities. Where possible we try to put them next to the rubbish bins to make recycling as convenient as possible.

Can you think of a suitable place to put a recycling bank? Please contact us or ask your managing agent, estate manager or resident's association to do so. For more information call 020 8871 6233 or email recycling@wandsworth.gov.uk
