Cycling Cycling
Cycling is a cheap, efficient and healthy form of transport, which has little adverse impact on the environment. On local journeys cycling is often faster and more reliable than other forms of transport, particularly in congested conditions. The promotion of cycling through the provision of cycle routes and facilities therefore plays a key role in our Transport Strategy. Cyclists are particularly vulnerable when travelling in the general mix of traffic and a number of initiatives have been introduced to segregate them from general traffic flow.

We support the introduction of the London Cycle Network, which aims to provide a 2900 km network of safe, convenient and conspicuous cycle routes across London. You can find both downloadable and online cycle maps together with a journey planner at www.londoncyclenetwork.org.uk

We are also working closely with Sustrans to progress the development of the Thames Cycle Route and with the Traffic Director for London to introduce improved crossing facilities and additional sections of cycle route as part of the introduction of the Priority (Red) Routes in the borough.

Cycle training courses are available, free of charge, to children and adults who live, work, or go to school or college in Wandsworth

More information on the development of initiatives to promote cycling is contained in the Interim Local Implementation Plan.
