Wandsworth design awards 2007
We are inviting nominations for our award scheme – the Wandsworth Design Awards – first launched in 1999. The awards aim to give public recognition to recent local building projects which make a positive contribution to the local environment and set a good example to others.

We particularly encourage local people and amenity societies as well as architects and developers to send us their suggestions. We want to hear about schemes in the borough of Wandsworth, large or small, which you think are successful.

Suggestions can be made for all types of development including:

  • access to buildings – improved provision for people with disabilities
  • residential extensions, including loft extensions
  • restoration/conversion projects, including schemes which introduce new uses into older buildings
  • shopfronts – new or restored
  • new buildings
  • public spaces
  • landscape projects
  • sustainable buildings/spaces (new category) buildings/spaces demonstrating excellence in principles of sustainable design and construction.

Projects should have been completed since 1 January 2005.

Awards will recognise the quality of design, the principles of sustainable design and construction, inclusive design, the suitability of materials, craftsmanship and innovation, and how well alterations relate to existing buildings and new buildings relate to their surroundings.

Awards
A panel consisting of local people with an interest in design, and representing amenity societies, Wandsworth Access Association, councillors and architects, will judge the projects. The awards, including the Wandsworth Access Award, will be announced early in 2008 and details will appear in the council's newspaper BrightSide.

Certificates will be awarded to the winners.
