Introducing the parks service Wandsworth boasts many beautiful parks and open spaces enjoyed by its residents. Within our borough, 670 hectares (1600 acres) is covered by parks, commons, allotments, and cemetery land - the largest proportion for any inner London authority and almost five times the size of Hyde Park. This land is owned by the council and managed by the parks service.
Included in the parks service are
- provision of allotments
- the arboricultural section which maintains several thousand trees in opens spaces and on the streets,
- the ecology office for advice on wildlife and all biodiversity matters
- pitch bookings for outdoor sports - football, rugby, cricket, or softball, or a game of bowls
- the maintenance of cemetery land
- the maintenance of parks and open spaces
Parks management plans In 2005 we adopted a management strategy to guide the way all parks services are run, from 2005 to 2010. You can view the committee report (05-343) here. Draft management plans are available for view for a number of parks and open spaces (pdf format) although the consultation period has now ended.

Cemeteries The parks service is one half of the parks and bereavement services. Within Wandsworth are several cemeteries, churchyards, and old burial grounds that provide pleasant areas for quiet relaxation. Many of these have mature trees, walk ways, benches and toilets, wildlife havens, and ornamental flowerbeds. Find out more about our cemeteries.
