Top garden designer, Dan Pearson, has been commissioned by the Friends of Battersea Park to design a stunning winter garden next to Sun Gate for the enjoyment of the park's 5 million annual visitors. It will display a richly planted mosaic of colour from leaf fall in November to bud burst in March – vibrancy and activity during the winter months. The final result will be a unique garden unparalleled in London for its scents, design and accessibility. Phase 1 – the main path and the Parrotia Oval, a gravel oval with a centre piece of Persian ironwood trees and five repositioned Westmorland boulders has been completed. Thanks to donations, including two major new donors, funds are now in place to realise phase 2, which will allow all topsoil and landscaping to be finished. We will then be able to turn our attention to the final phase, which will involve planting trees, shrubs, perennials and bulbs. If you would like to support and help bring this innovative park-enhancing project to a triumphant conclusion for the enjoyment of all, please contact Joanne Taylor on 020 8871 8034 or email jotaylor@wandsworth.gov.uk |
