Maple Leaf Walk
The Friends of Battersea Park, working with us, agreed to replant an avenue in Battersea Park with maples which provide much needed shade and plenty of colour to the park.
The Friends of Battersea Park approached the Canadian Embassy for assistance with the creation of the new avenue, and the High Commissioner of Canada, His Excellency James R Wright, gave his seal of approval at a celebration event in October 2006.
Dadco and TD Securities, which are two major Canadian companies, decided to jointly fund the avenue after being approached by Ron Hoffman, minister for political affairs and public diplomacy.
Executive member for environment and leisure, Cllr Malcolm Grimston said "Acacia Avenue is one of Battersea Park's historic grand tree lined avenues. The Acacias have now reached the end of their safe natural lives...these trees must be removed and a new avenue of trees planted in their place."
The avenue will now be known as Maple Leaf Walk. |
