Parking bay suspensions for utility companies
As you may be aware, parking bay suspensions may be put in place for a number of reasons, including works by utility companies. When a bay suspension is applied for, the period for which the suspension will be needed is specified by the applicant, who then pays for the bay to be suspended for the whole of that period. As such, the Council expects that the suspended area will be in use for the entire period purchased. However, in the case of utility companies, it is possible that they will move to another job for a short period, complete the works earlier than anticipated, start the works later than expected or even abandon their plans and postpone the works.

We are aware of the need to ensure that parking space is maximised for residents, visitors and businesses. Therefore, we ask utility companies applying for bay suspensions to inform us of any early completions or breaks in their work of more than one day, to enable us to take appropriate action with regard to notifying residents and businesses nearby that the suspended parking bay has become available for their use.

Nevertheless, it is always a possibility that a utility company may neglect to tell us that work has been delayed, stopped temporarily, completed early or postponed. Consequently, we would request that if you are a resident or business based in a street where such a suspension is in force, please let us know. We will then be able to clarify the situation with the relevant company, and make spaces available if it is practical to do so. The contact number and email address to use are shown below.
