Census data and analysis
The Census is a comprehensive survey of the UK population and is carried out every 10 years by the Office for National Statistics. The last Census was held on Sunday 29 April 2001.All information from the 2001 Census is provided by the Office for National Statistics and is Crown Copyright. The 1901 Census was released to the public in 2002. Census returns can be viewed at the National Archives, Kew. Local libraries and record offices may also hold this information. Searching facilities are also available online at www.1901census.nationalarchives.gov.uk

2001 Census key statistics
The 2001 Census key statistics were released on 13 February 2003. The tables give the first detailed information on the characteristics of the Borough's population and households.

In addition to the 2001 Census information for Wandsworth, the tables also give information for London as a whole and comparisons with data for 1991 where it is available. Listed below are the tables of information available.

Workplace origin-destination data
The 2001 Census collected information on the location of workplaces, in addition to where people lived.

This information can be cross-tabulated to show flows of commuters into and out of an area and mapped to show patterns of movement.

This report identifies the changes in the resident populations of specific new housing developments that have taken place between the 1997 New Housing Survey and the 2001 Census.

Information by ethnic group and religion
The Census is a unique source of detailed information on the characteristics of different ethnic groups who live in the Borough. The Census also provides some information by country of birth, and in 2001 a voluntary question on religion was included in the Census for the first time. This report details information on ethnic group, country of birth and religion as recorded by the 2001 Census.
