Citizen's charter
We aim to complete 95% of written searches within five working days. In 2007/08 the response rate was 99.86% within five days and 100% in ten days.

At present, we are achieving a two day turnaround for responding to a search and have taken steps to ensure that we continue to achieve this demanding target in the future.

We also aim to guide personal callers when carrying out personal searches.

The standards of the service which you can expect from us and what to do if you have a problem are set out in the Local Land Charges and Land and Property Gazetteer Citizen's Charter.

Our commitment is to:

  • give clear, concise and accurate information at all times
  • treat everyone with respect and courtesy
  • actively seek ways of improving the quality of our service.
  • assist with all search related enquiries
  • assist with relevant property related queries.

Local Land Charges computer system
We are in the process of compiling a corporate Local Land and Property Gazetteer, along with a corporate Geographic Information System, which will form part of a National Land and Property Gazetteer.

As this work requires a great deal of input from the staff in the Local Land Charges Section and the Land and Property Gazetter Unit the policy of Personal Searches only being accepted from 9am to 12noon Monday to Friday is to continue until further notice.

If you have any urgent searches during this period please let us know so that, if possible, we can try and accommodate your request to meet your deadline. Thank you for your continued support in this matter and we apologise for any inconvenience caused to you and your clients.
