Hazards in Wandsworth
Under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004, Category 1 and Category 2 responders were given the duty of compiling a Community Risk Register (pdf) for the LRF area. A public version of the register can be viewed using the above link. The CRR records and assesses all significant 'hazards and risks' in the Local Resilience Area; previously, the only hazards that local authorities were obligated to register, or log, were significant industrial hazards.

Listed below are some of the more common hazards identifed.  Click on the hazard to be taken to the relevant section.

Hazardous sites
Under the Control of Major Accident Hazard Regulations (COMAH) operators of certain higher risk industrial sites are required to have in place emergency plans covering the area immediately surrounding the site concerned.

The only plant in Wandsworth which falls within the COMAH requirements is the Battersea Gas Holder site in Queenstown Road, Battersea. The off-site plan is in place for this installation and the Council, as required by the COMAH Regulations, has been consulted on the plan and distributed safety information to residents and businesses in the immediate surrounding area.
