Consultation
Wandsworth Electoral Registration Service carries out a number of consultations each year. These consultations take place in a variety of ways and with members of the public, staff and other organisations.

This page shows the most recent consultations with the results and actions that have taken place as a result if appropriate.

2007 Canvass surveys
Each year an annual canvass takes place and forms are delivered to every property in the Borough. Each household must register each year and canvassers are employed to deliver these forms and then to call back at least four times to properties where there is no reply.

During the annual canvass recently carried out between August and November 2007, the Electoral Registration Service conducted a number of surveys with the aim of improving canvassing methods in the future, and also to ascertain what level of customer satisfaction there is with the Service.

Customer satisfaction survey
One of the surveys was included on the information leaflet that accompanied every voter registration form delivered to every household in the Borough.

The question asked was, "How satisfied are you by the service provided by us?"

7,139 responses were received with 93.9% of those who replied stating that they were satisfied with the service provided. This is an increase of 0.5% since November 2006.

The analysis of of this survey is shown below

Entry phone and integral security systems survey
During the 2006 annual canvass a survey was carried out by the Council's canvass staff, to establish the number of blocks of flats, both privately and Council owned, with entry phones and integral security systems.

From this survey we identified over 1,600 residential blocks or estates with entryphones, comprising over 32,000 units of accommodation.

The result of this survey supported the case for those properties where it is not possible to gain access, to be canvassed by post only, in order to achieve better registration levels. This method of canvassing took place in some areas for the first time during the 2007 canvass.

Canvassers were surveyed once again regarding these properties during the 2007 canvass and further properties have been identified as needing to be canvassed by post only at during the 2008 canvass.

The analysis of the 2007 survey is available below.

Canvassers
At the end of the canvass, surveys are sent to each canvasser asking them their views on the canvass. Over the years there have been many positive changes that have taken place as a result of the feedback from canvassers.

Some of the changes that were made for the 2007 canvass are as follows.

- The household registration form use to use the wording "You are required by law to register to vote". However, this was confusing to those people who do not qualify to vote and therefore the wording was changed to read "you are required by law to provide the requested information".

- As a result of a survey carried out regarding the number of properties that are impossible to gain access to, several areas have been made all postal canvasses in order to maximise the return of forms in these areas.

- The canvass started a week later in order to avoid the August Bank Holiday when many people are still on holiday and might overlook their initially delivered form when they return home.

Booklet for people with learning disabilities
In 2005 a new guide was produced. This is aimed at people with learning disabilities with a view to making the actual process of going into the polling station much clearer and more straightforward.

It was designed and produced by the Wandsworth Corporate Communications Unit, Wandsworth Electoral Registration Service and the Makaton Vocabulary Development Project (Registered Charity no 287782) with the help of members of the Battersea Social Education Centre.

The attached is the evaluation of this guide which was put together after various consultations took place.

As a result of this evaluation an information day took place at Wandsworth Town Hall on 9 February 2006. A report of this day is below and further information are planned prior to the 2008 GLA Elections being held on 1 May 2008.

Complaints
When a member of the public makes a complaint about the Electoral Registration Service they are sent a questionnaire in order for us to find out how they felt their complaint has been dealt with.

Several complaints were made during and after the Borough Council Elections on Thursday 4 May 2006. Three members of the public completed the questionnaire up to and including 24 May 2006 and the results are as follows.

Two people agreed that their complaint had been dealt with fairly, sensitively, courteously, to their satisfaction and within a satisfactory length of time. One person also made the comment 'Many thanks for info.'.

The other person who completed the questionnaire agreed slightly that their complaint had been dealt with fairly, sensitively and courteously, they agreed that it had been dealt with within a satisfactory length of time. They disagreed that it had been dealt with to their satisfaction. The reason for this is that they did not feel there were enough assurances that the problem would not re-occur. Unfortunately they did not give us their contact details in order for us to make further contact.
