About the Council Tax section
We employ 34 staff and will bill and recover Council Tax amounting to around £75m each year. We will issue the bills after identifying the person liable to pay, deduct discounts and exemptions, remind and then enforce payment. We will enforce payment through the Magistrates Court and by the use of bailiffs where necessary.

The Housing Benefits overpayment recovery team has six members of staff and is situated in the Council Tax section. This team will issue the bills for all overpaid Housing Benefit and then enforce collection through the County Court when appropriate.

We expect each year that service delivery will improve and that the quality and speed of processing work is always a key objective. We hold the Chartermark award that rewards customer service and ISO 9001:2000 quality accreditation that recognises that the service has the procedures to deliver continuous improvement and will learn from experience and errors. The Finance Department holds the Investors in People award and is committed to developing each member of staff to maximise their performance in their job.
