| Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA)
Our CPA score Overall we are one of only 13 councils in the country to have achieved both the top four star rating for performance and to be judged to be 'improving strongly' in the Direction of Travel assessment. We are one of only two authorities in the country to achieve top marks on all aspects of the 'Use of Resources' assessment. The includes top marks for value for money. We have achieved this while maintaining the council tax at around half the amount of levied by other top performing authorities.

Corporate Assessment inspection report The Council was the subject of a Corporate Assessment inspection in October 2007 and achieved the top overall score of 4, one of only 11 of the 102 authorities inspected to date have achieved this.
The assessment measures 'how effectively the council is working corporately, and with its partners, to improve services and deliver improved outcomes for local people.' The inspectors made the assessment using Key Lines of Enquiry (KLOE) to provide a framework to gather and assess evidence about how the council is working. The KLOE are set out under 5 themes, each of which is scored in the assessment. The 5 themes are Ambition, Prioritisation, Capacity, Performance and Achievement.
Details of the criteria used to make the assessments are available on the Audit Commission website. The report says "Wandsworth is performing strongly. It is a business-like and consistently high-performing council. Its long-term focus, which is well-recognised by all stakeholders, is on delivering high quality, top quartile services across the board at low cost. It is very successful at this".

Self Assessment 2007 As part of the preparation for the Corporate Assessment the Council were required to provide a self assessment of our performance on the 5 themes. This was one of the sources of evidence used by the inspectors in making their judgement.

Freedoms and flexibilities 'Excellent' authorities benefit from a reduction in the requirement to produce statutory plans. As they are considered 'lower risk' they are also subject to lighter touch inspection and audit.
