Volunteer survey

Working in partnership with the Wandsworth Volunteer Centre, we are trying to find out the nature and amount of volunteering in the borough so we can find out the valuable impact that it has. One of the ways that we can do this is to calculate how many hours are being given by volunteers to enhance the lives of our residents.

In the 2007 Residents Survey 21% of residents said they were actively involved in volunteering with local organisations. We would like to know more details about this activity. The definition of a volunteering is quite broad and often people do not class themselves as a volunteer. In its broadest sense volunteering is:
'any activity which involves spending time, unpaid, doing something which aims to benefit someone (individuals or groups) other than or in addition to, close relatives, or to benefit the environment.'
