Opening hours
Our standard hours of opening to the public on Mondays to Fridays are 9am to 4.30pm. During these hours, we operate both a drop-in service and an appointment service. For an appointment, telephone the Register Office any time between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday. If you want to give notice of your intention to marry or form a civil partnership, to register a birth, death or still-birth, and our standard opening hours are inconvenient, then we can offer you an appointment on Saturday or an early morning appointment from 8.30am during the week. In addition, we also have a special service for notices on intention and you can make appointments for Thursday evening and Saturdays.

We will make special arrangements if you are intending to register a still-birth or the death of a baby or child and would find coming to the Register Office too distressing. We can arrange to carry out the registration at the hospital or in your home. You can either ask the hospital staff to contact us on your behalf or contact us direct.

We conduct marriage ceremonies and civil partnership registrations throughout Monday to Friday between the hours of 10am and 12 noon and 2pm and 4pm. On Saturdays, our programme begins at 9.30am, with the last appointment at 3.30pm.

We also have a Sunday service and you should contact us to check availability.

For those becoming British Citizens our ceremonies are held on weekday evenings. Ring the Citizenship Officers on (020) 8871 6136/6186 between 9am to 5pm Mondays to Fridays to book a ceremony when you receive notification from the Home Office. We will offer you a place on the earliest available ceremony, and other dates if that is not convenient to you.

We are also able to offer individual ceremonies, often at short notice, at your request to meet urgent deadlines or for family reasons. Ring (020) 8871 6136 between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday to discuss the options with us.

The Nationality Checking Service is available by appointment only, weekdays and Saturdays. Please ring (020) 8871 6124 between 9am and 5pm Mondays to Fridays to make an appointment. As the service requires a specialist adviser it is by appointment only.

Telephone contact
The direct lines for telephone enquiries are 020 8871 6120/1. The telephone will be answered between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. Our telephone response standard is for all calls to be answered within five rings. Outside these hours, messages can be left on an answer phone service and we will respond no later than the next working day. For deaf people, we have a Minicom line 020 8871 8642.
If you are in need of urgent assistance (for example if you need us to conduct a marriage ceremony when someone is nearing death or where a burial has to be completed within 24 hours because of religious or cultural beliefs) you should telephone 020 8871 6900 and ask to be put in contact with the Superintendent Registrar.

Contact us in writing
If you wish to write to us, please address your letter to the Superintendent Registrar, Wandsworth Register Office, Wandsworth Town Hall, SW18 2PU.

If you are requesting a copy of a certificate, we aim to despatch the certificate within one working day, as mentioned more fully later in this guide.

If you are writing to us on another matter, our target response standard is to reply in full within five working days. If this is not possible then our target is to acknowledge your letter within five working days with the full response within ten. If there are exceptional circumstances and we are unable to write to you with a full answer, we will keep you regularly informed until we do provide a full response.
