Help for young parents

If you are pregnant or a young parent choosing to stay at home can provide support and advice, help with your child, financial help and a familiar home environment.

You will only be housed by the Council if you are genuinely homeless. The Council may contact the person you last lived with to confirm your current housing situation and that you are not able to live with them anymore.

If the Council decides that you qualify for help with housing one of the places you may live is in supported housing, see the emergency and supported housing page for more information, where there will be a key worker there to support you. In this kind of accommodation you will be sharing with other young mums.

If you are pregnant or have a baby, and suitable accommodation cannot be found on the day you are made homeless, you may be placed in a B&B or temporary accommodation until a permanent home is found for you. In this case you will be supported by a worker who will keep in contact with you and help you with things like budgeting, paying bills, filling out housing benefit forms and basic information about parenting.
