Whilst the department is regularly inspected by external bodies such as the Audit Commission, this scheme gives the users of the service an opportunity to comment on the services they receive and ensure that the department continues to meet their needs and expectations.

This is a long-term commitment and requires a great deal of training in preparation for an inspection. Residents will be made aware of the legal restraints within which the service operates together with the agreed service standards that should be met. All inspections will be carried out in an objective manner so that any recommendations arising from the inspections have sufficient merit to achieve the required change.

Residents will not inspect internal mechanisms and services unless they affect the service provision as experienced by residents.
